What is a Delta Connection in 3 phase? – Theory & Phasor Diagram

In this system two dissimilar ends i.e. the starting end of one winding is connected to the finishing end of the other winding and so on. Thus forming a mesh or closed circuit. The three lines are taken from the three junctions of this mesh; as shown in Fig. 16.6. So this system is known as delta or mesh connection.

Fig. 16.6. Delta and vector diagrams.
These connections have got the following characteristics:
(i) The dissimilar ends are connected and leads are taken from the junctions of the closed circuit.
(ii) The line voltage is equal to the phase voltage.
(iii) The line current = √3 phase current.
(iv) The power in the circuit.
W 3 x Phase power

so the power •5 x Line voltage x Line current x Power factor. In most of the cases these connections are used for the primary winding connections of the distribution transformer and secondary winding of the transmission transformers.
