The line commuted inverter is capable of transferring power from AC to AC or vice versa. The direction of power flow in the inverters is dependent on the triggering delay angle of firming of the SCRs in the inverter. Figure 1.8 shows the block diagram of high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system using a line commuted inverter.
