What is Comfort Air Conditioning? Explanation, Necessity & Applications

Comfort air conditioning has the purpose of conditioning the air for human comfort.

Aim of comfort air conditioning: To provide artificial internal atmospheric conditions conducive (suitable or comfortable) to human health.

Parameters like temperature, humidity, air movement etc. are controlled as per requirements. Commercial air conditioning system is similar to comfort air conditioning. The only difference commercial air conditioning and comfort air conditioning is number of occupants and their stay period. In comfort air conditioning system, number of occupants are less, but their stay time is more. For example: Home air conditioning. Whereas, in commercial air conditioning, the stay period of occupants is less, but number of occupants are more. For example: Cinema theatres, Seminar halls, Hostels, Banks, offices etc.

Applications of comfort air conditioning

  • Homes, Banks, Hospitals etc.
  • Transportation: Trains, Airplanes, Buses and trolleys, automobiles etc.
  • Schools, seminar halls, auditorium, theatre etc.
  • Hotels, restaurants, shopping malls and night clubs.
  • Offices, Multiroom office buildings and Public buildings.
  • Retail and Departmental stores.
  • Shopping malls.
  • Dance halls and skating rinks.
  • Medical stores. Dress shops, Barbershops, Grocery stores etc.

Difference between Industrial and Comfort Air Conditioning

Industrial Air Conditioning Comfort Air Conditioning
It is used in industries to control the process parameters. It is used in residential/commercial areas.
It improves the efficiency and quality of the product. It provides human comfort conditions, thereby increasing efficiency during work hours decreasing fatigue on workers.
Conditions to be maintained may change from process to process. Human beings feel comfortable at 21°C and relative humidity. However, approximate range of temperature is 20°C to 40°C and relative humidty 40% to 60% is said to be optimum.
Applications: Printing industry, photography, textile mills, machine tool industry, chemical industries etc. Applications: Homes, restaurants, offices, hotels, cinema theatres, seminar halls etc.
