Distinguishing Features of Core type transformer
Some of the distinguishing features of this type of transformer are as follows :
- The core of this type of transformer is built of laminations to form a rectangular frame and provides a single magnetic circuit.
- The windings are normally cylindrical in form and concentric, low voltage winding being placed near the core.
- Both the windings are uniformly distributed over two limbs of the core.
- These windings surround considerable portion of the core.
- Since the windings are distributed on two limbs, natural cooling is more effective.
- The coils can be withdrawn for repairs just by dismantling laminations of the top yoke.
