Oil Immersed Transformer

In this topic, you study Oil Immersed Transformer.

The transformers using oil as coolant are called oil immersed transformers. In comparison with air, the oil provides better insulation and is a better conductor of heat. Hence, most of the large-capacity transformers are of oil-immersed type.

Cooling Methods for Oil Immersed Transformers

The cooling methods for oil-immersed transformers include the following :

(i) Oil Natural Air Natural or simply Oil Natural (ONAN or ON)

(ii) Oil Natural Air Forced (ONAF)

(iii) Oil Forced Air Natural (OFAN)

(iv) Oil Forced Air Forced (OFAF)

(v) Oil Natural Water Forced (ONWF)

(vi) Oil Forced Water Forced (OFWF)
