Distinguishing Features of Core type transformer

Some of the distinguishing features of this type of transformer are as follows :

  1. The core of this type of transformer is built of laminations to form a rectangular frame and provides a single magnetic circuit.
  2. The windings are normally cylindrical in form and concentric, low voltage winding being placed near the core.
  3. Both the windings are uniformly distributed over two limbs of the core.
  4. These windings surround considerable portion of the core.
  5. Since the windings are distributed on two limbs, natural cooling is more effective.
  6. The coils can be withdrawn for repairs just by dismantling laminations of the top yoke.
