What are the different Effects of Electricity?

In this topic, you study the different effects of electricity.

There are the following main effects of electricity:

  1. Heating effect.
  2. Magnetic effect.
  3. Chemical effect.

Heating effect: When electric current passes through a conductor, heat is produced in that conductor. This effect of electricity is called the heating effect Of the current. Electric heater, kettle, electric iron and electric lamps are the example of the same effect.

Heat produced in a conductor can be given by the formula

H heat, I current in amps, R resistance in ohms and t is the time in seconds. The unit depends upon the conversion in joule or in calories.

Magnetic effect. Whenever an electric current flows through a wire, magnetic line of force are produced around the conductor. This is called the magnetic effect of the current, electric machines,

Chemical effect: Whenever the current passes through an electrolyte it decomposes into its constituents or ions. All electrochemical possesses like electroplating, refinery of metals, cells, battery, works on the same effect. Our body is also a good liquid conductor and if current passes through it, it may cause a shock. The nature of shock will depend upon the quantity of Current through the body.
