What is Hydraulic Accumulator? Types, Symbol, Construction, Diagram & Working

The hydraulic accumulator stores excess hydraulic energy and on demand makes the stored energy available to the system. The function of accumulator is similar to the function of flywheel in the IC engine/steam engine or capacitor in the electric circuit. Since accumulators are having the ability to store excess energy and also having ability to release the energy to system when system is in bad need of energy, the hydraulic systems using accumulators are most efficient systems because there is very little energy loss.

What is Friction Welding? Process, Diagram, & Advantages

Friction Welding

Figure 1: Friction Welding.

In friction welding, the heat is obtained by the friction between the surfaces of the two parts which are to be joined. These parts are held under pressure, where one part is stationary and other part is made to rotate at high speed. The welded joint is obtained hen a force on the stationary part is applied, after stopping the rotation of the part (see Figure 1).

What is Double Acting Hydraulic Cylinder? Construction, Diagram & Working

Double Acting Hydraulic Cylinder

Figure 1: Double Acting Hydraulic Cylinder.

In double acting Hydraulic cylinder, the pressurized liquid is admitted on both sides of the piston alternately. Work is performed during forward motion as well as backward motion of the piston (see Fig. 1). Double acting Hydraulic cylinders are most commonly used hydraulic cylinders in industrial applications. In these cylinders, the pressure is applied on both end ports to obtain power in both directions. They are also termed differential cylinders, as they have different extension and retraction areas.

What is Sliding Mesh Gearbox? Construction, Diagram & Working

Sliding Mesh Gearbox

Figure 1: Sliding Mesh Gearbox

Construction & Working of Sliding Mesh Gearbox

The sliding mesh gearbox consists of three shafts namely input shaft, output shaft and lay shaft. The input and output shafts are in line, whereas lay shaft is parallel to them and lies below them. The function of input shaft is to take power from engine and transmit to output shaft through a series of gears mounted on layshaft. The function of output shaft is to transmit power obtained from input shaft to the propeller shaft for onward transmission to road wheels. Schematic layout of sliding mesh gear box is shown in Figure 1.
