What is Trivector Meter? Working & Block Diagram

Trivector meter is an energy meter, which can accurately measure active energy in MWh, Reactive energy in MVArh, apparent energy in MVAh and maximum demand in MVA. These meters are used for commercial and industrial purposes. These electronic meters use microcontrollers (μC) with their own programming language.

Block Diagram of Trivector Meter

The Fig. 1 shows the simple block diagram of a digital trivector meter. The trivector meter gets input supply to be measured through current and potential transformers (CT and PT). That is it gets current input through a CT and voltage input tluough a PT. For showing various measurements, a LCD display is used.

The current and voltage are sampled through a sampling circuit. For getting accurate results the sampling rate should be high. For data processing, a microcontroller (μC) is used along with a battery. Very reliable ROM (read only memory) is used to retain the data for years. The data from ROM can either be displayed on the LCD screen or communicated to a meter.
